A Calgary police officer has been charged with unwanted communication and criminal harassment.

Const. Jacqueline MacNeil, a 14-year member of the Calgary Police Service, is currently on leave unrelated to the charges, police said in an emailed release Tuesday.

Police said it's alleged MacNeil excessively contacted the victim, threatening to ruin the victim's reputation both personally and professionally, between April and November 2018.

Information as to how the victim and MacNeil were known to each other wasnot released by police, and police said further details of the allegations will not be made available to protect the victims identity.

The investigation was sent to the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor, police said, which determined charges were warranted.
