Who left a dead newborn in a parking lot last Christmas remains a mystery

Police trying to find the mother of a dead baby found in a Bowness parking lot last Christmas have received 60 tips and even hired a U.S. company to produce a sketch of what she could look like.

It's been almosta year since a newborn baby girl was found dead at a northwest Calgary parking lot and police are still looking for her mother.

A Bowness resident found the baby around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 24 in a parking lot behind the Bownesian grocery store.

An autopsy on the baby showed she was born alive, but it's not known whether she was still alive when she was abandoned.

Police say they've received 60 tips over the past yearbut none have advanced the investigation.

They even hired a U.S. company to produce a sketch of what the mother could look like, based on DNA.

"Since Christmas Eve last year, there are many people who have been personally impacted by this investigation," Staff Sgt. MartinSchiavettaof the homicide unit said in a news release.

"First responders, witnesses and investigators all have an emotional attachment to this baby and the tragic circumstances. We want to ensure the mother is safe and we want to give some semblance of closure to all those involved."

Police at the time said evidence at the scene suggested the mother was in need of medical care.
