Calgary police believe 2 weekend shootings connected

Calgary police are continuing to investigate two shootings over the weekend that are now believed to be connected.

Calgary police are continuing to investigate two shootings over the weekend that are now believed to be connected.

In a statement on Monday, police said its Organized Crime and Offender Management (OCOM) unitis continuing to look for a suspectthey believe committed two separate, targeted shootings that left one person seriously injured.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 30,police received reports of gunshots being exchanged between two vehicles onwestbound Glenmore Trail near 37thStreet S.W.

Both vehicles fled the scene before police arrivedand no injuries were reported.

Roughly 30 minutes later, police responded to a call that a man had been shot while parking his vehicle in the 100 block of Seton Passage S.E. Police said officers found a man at the scenesuffering from gunshot wounds.

"It is believed that the suspect fired multiple rounds during the shooting in Seton, with stray bullets striking four surrounding residences, before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle," read the statement.

Stuart Brideauxwith Calgary EMS said the victim was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in serious and potentially life-threatening condition.

"The scene was left in care of Calgary police," said Brideaux. "There were no other reports of patients at that location at that time for EMS to assess."

Police said no suspect description has yet been confirmed and that the victim of the shooting remains un-cooperative.

"The level of violence and blatant disregard for public safety that these offenders demonstrated is extremely concerning and will not be tolerated," said Staff Sgt. Roland Stewart.

"While both of these incidents were targeted, the safety of innocent bystanders was put at risk on Saturday, and we know many Calgarians are also alarmed."

Police saidaddressing gun violence continues to be a priority for CPS.
