Calgary police say it cost $850,000to keep the peace on the Red Mile during the Flames playoff run.

Supt.RayRobitaille saysnine arrests were made overall.

"The goal that we had was people's voluntary compliance with the law," he said.

"And to do that we weren't taking a zero tolerance approach, that has more of anadversarial effect. It's one that's more engaging and asking people to make the choice to be respectful and for a large part that's what we saw."

Robitaillegives fans the credit for very few charges during the Flames playoffs.

"I wouldn't say I'm surprised," he said.

"I've always been impressed with Calgariansandhow they behave in sporting events and in general to any kind of public gathering, and so I thinkthis is exemplary."
