Purolator facility in Calgary linked to 30 confirmed cases of COVID-19

A Purolator facility in Calgaryhas had an outbreak of COVID-19, with 30 confirmed cases.

The company says in a statement that most of those affected are "inside sortation" employees.

"All of our employees who have tested positive are away from work and self-isolating. All of the positive cases have been out of the building for at least seven days," reads the statement, sent by public affairs and media relations strategistNikkol Zezza.

The company says it continues to provide protective equipment to staff, as well as maintaining physical distancing and "rigorous" sanitation standards.

"We are also following a thorough contact tracing program to effectively isolate and contain the risk of further spread, while instituting health screening and temperature checks for all workers and visitors before they can enter the facility."

37 outbreaks in Calgary zone

The outbreak at Purolator is just one of 37 outbreaks in the Calgary Zone. The vast majority of those outbreaks are at care facilities, but also include two meat-processing plants, a warehouse andthe Calgary Drop-In Centre.

Alberta Health defines an outbreak as two or more infections within the same facility. It provides a list of outbreaks online that is update on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Not yet on the list because the confirmation came too late on Fridayis another distribution company: Amazon.

Alberta Health confirms there are now nine cases linked to Amazon's Calgary facility.
