3 major roadwork projects to 'improve the experience' for Calgary commuters now complete

The city says crews have finished three major road and bridge improvement projects in northeast and northwest Calgary.

Barlow Trail N.E.

A 2.5-kilometre stretch of pavement on Barlow Trail was reconstructedfrom Fourth Avenue to Sunridge Boulevard N.E.

Crews added new traffic signals at Fourth and Seventh avenues and a new centre median north of 16th Avenue on Barlow Trail N.E.

The projectincluded arehabilitation of the 16th Avenue N.E. bridge, and ramps connecting to Barlow Trail.

A new multi-use pathway was also addedalong Meridian Road N.E. just north of Centre Avenue.

"Completion of these two critical life-cycle projects will help ensure these busy routes stay in good condition and improve the experience for travellers in the area for years to come," said City of Calgary project managerJason Linin a news release.

John Laurie Boulevard N.W.

In the city's northwest, crews restored a four-kilometre section of John Laurie Boulevardfrom Shaganappi Trail to 14th Street, adjacent to Nose Hill Park, including a full intersection reconstruction at Brisebois Drive N.W.

The project also included a realignment of the Many Owls parking lot entrance at Nose Hill Park and the installation of high tension cable barriers along John Laurie Boulevard.

Crews also built a new multi-use pathway connection and accessibility ramps at the northwest corner of the Shaganappi Trail and John Laurie Boulevard N.W. intersection, giving new access from the community of Edgemont to Nose Hill Park and Shaganappi Trail.
