Calgary police have charged a man with two counts of robbery and three counts of forcible confinement after three women reported being held against their will by a man impersonating an officer.

Between March 25 and June 5, a man met with three women he'd met online with the intent of robbing them, police allege. In each case, the victims saidthe man claimed to be a police officer and showed a fake search warrant before attempting to restrain them.

In the first case, the man met a woman at a business in the 800 block of 12th AvenueS.W. and opened his jacket to show a vest with "POLICE" written across front before taking her debit card, laptop, cellphone and cash.

The second case happened a little more than two weeks later in Leduc, Alta. Again, a man met up with a woman he had met online and opened his jacket to display a vest with "POLICE" written across it before placing her in handcuffs. He took the woman's phone and some cash before releasing her and fleeing.

Police allege the third robbery happened days later, again in Leduc.

Investigators believe the man is also responsible for similar offences in other cities.

Asif Ali Choudhry, 33, of Sechelt, B.C. who also goes by the name Brandon was arrested this week in B.C. and has been charged by way of warrants.

Police in York, Ont. issued Canada-wide warrants for Choudhry last week for similar offences.

Choudhry is in custody in B.C. and police in Calgary are working to have him transferred here to answer to the charges.
