Multi-million dollar cache now housed in modern, climate-controlled space

After years of being stored in a less than adequate space, the city of Calgary's multi-million dollar art collection has a new home.

About half of the citys $5-million art collectionmost of it donatedis out on display in civic buildings at any given time.

The rest of the paintings, prints, sculptures and statues will now be housed in a secure, climate-controlled, air-filtrated room at an otherwise ordinary-looking warehouse.

Its location is a closely-held secret.

"People didn't realize what assets we had and what a treasure it had grown to be," said Quyen Hoang, coordinator of the citys public art program.

"And so it's very important for us to consider that and to make sure that we house them properly and care for them appropriately."

Hoang says the new million-dollar space also has room for the collection to grow.
