Man fatally shot in northwest Calgary alley identified, police say

A man who was fatally shot in the citys Crescent Heights neighbourhood has been identified, Calgary police say.

A man who was fatally shot in the city's Crescent Heights neighbourhood on April 1 has been identified, Calgary police say.

Following an autopsy Tuesday, the man was identified as Majed Ahmed Zulfiqar, 26, of Calgary.

Police say that on Friday around 8:30 p.m., "unknown offenders" shot into an SUV parked in an alleyway near 301 16th Ave. N.W.

Zulfiqar was shot multiple times and died a short time later.

Police say they believe the shooter or shooters then fled in a vehicle eastbound on 16th Avenue, toward Edmonton Trail N.E.

Police think the offender or offenders were in a white 2011 GMC Sierra truck that had been stolen sometime between 9:30 p.m. on March 30 and 4 a.m. on March31,from a home in the community of Priddis.

They believe the truck was abandoned after the shooting on April 1. It has now been recovered.

"We are asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle matching the description of a white 2011 GMC Sierra truck that appeared to be engaged in suspicious activity between March 30 and April 1to contact police or Crime Stoppers," said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta in a release.

Police are also looking for further information about the shooting. They're asking anyone who may have dashcam footage from eastbound or westbound 16th Avenuebetween 10th Street N.W. and Deerfoot Trail N.E., between 8 and 9 p.m. Friday, to contact the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.

Anyone with information about the homicide can also leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Police say there have been nine homicides this year, with threehappening last week.

Police are still looking for information about the fatal shooting of a Grade 10 student that happened Thursday, and have charged a man following the death of a 39-year-old man that happened Friday.
