Police recover 150 key fobs during stolen car investigation

A two-day investigation into a pair of stolen cars lead Calgary police to seize a gun, drugs, a radio jamming device, a number of other stolen vehicles and 150 key fobs stolen from Red Deer during a break and enter.

A two-day investigation into a pair of stolen cars led Calgary police to seize a gun, drugs, a radio jamming device, a number of other stolen vehicles and 150 key fobs stolen from Red Deer during a break and enter.

Two people are now facing 26 charges.

On Saturday, two stolen cars were spotted parked in the100 block of Wellington Place S.W., according to police.

Two days later, officers observed a man and a woman leaving in one of the vehicles, which was followed by HAWCS helicopter to a parking lot in the 9900 block of Macleod Trail S.E.. Policesaid the pairwere then taken into custody by members of the district operations team (DOT) and the canine unit.

A search of the vehicle turned up 18.5 grams of several different drugs.

A search warrant was later executed on a residence in the 100 block of Wellington Place S.W. where several items were seized, including:

  • Four stolen vehicles, valued at $239,000 (including a 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT, 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, 2017 Ford Escape and 2017 Dodge Durango RT).
  • A stolen 2015 Rockwoodtrailer, valued at $20,000.
  • A loaded 9mm handgun and suppressor, with two, 10-round magazines.
  • A police scanner, radio jamming device and radios.
  • 150 Dodge/Jeep key fobs, stolen from a break and enter in Red Deer on March 24.
  • 33.4 grams of powder cocaine, valued at $4,340.
  • 19.9 grams of crack cocaine, valued at $1,990.
  • 441.5 grams of marijuana, valued at $4,415.
  • One gram of heroin, valued at $100.

Quinn Olson, 41, of Calgary, is charged with:

  • Three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
  • Four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000.
  • Three counts of breach of recognizance.
  • Two violations under the Traffic Safety Act.

He is also charged with one count each of:

  • Trafficking stolen property.
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device.
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
  • Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition.
  • Careless storage of a firearm.

Sarah McRae, 30, of Calgary is charged with:

  • Three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
  • One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000.
  • Three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.
  • One count of operating a motor vehicle while disqualified, and one violation under the Traffic Safety Act.

Both Olson and McRae are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
