There are now three students who have tested positive for COVID-19 at a summer school hosted by theCalgary Catholic School District, Alberta Health has confirmed.

"Health officials continue to take aggressive precautions to identify any additional cases of COVID-19 and limit the spread," spokespersonTom McMillansaid in an email.

Earlier this week, the CCSD confirmed that one student at St. Francis High School had tested positive for the virus, and said the student, teacher, and class members have been instructed to quarantine for 14 days, as per public health guidelines.

McMillan said the rapid testing indicated that "the system works."

"This relies on timely testing and isolation of those exposed to limit the spread," he said.

An outbreak has not been declared, he said, and Alberta Health Services (AHS)is involved in contact tracing and ensuring that anyone at risk is tested and isolated.

"The school remains open and underwent enhanced cleaning earlier in the week," McMillan said.

St. Francis High School is one oftwo schools in the Catholic system operating summer school in Calgary. The other isBishop O'Byrne Senior High School.
