Calgary taxi driver charged after passenger sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries

Calgary police have charged a taxi driver with aggravated assault and assault with a weaponafter his passenger ended up in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said theywere called to an "altercation" between the driver and his passenger at a gas station in the 3100 block of Edmonton Trail N.E. around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

"Officers arrived on scene to find one man in life-threatening condition. He remains in hospital with his condition unchanged," reads a news release.

"Investigators have established that the victim was struck in the head with a blunt object."

HintsaOqubu, 40, of Calgary, was arrested at the scene and is scheduled to appear in court on May 31.
