Calgary Transit extends New Year's Eve service

Calgary Transit announced Thursday it will be extending service on New Year's Eve to help get Calgary partygoers to and from their holiday celebrations.

C-Trains, some buses to run until 3 a.m.

Calgary Transit announced Thursday itwill be extending service on New Year's Eve on to help get Calgarypartygoers to and from their holiday celebrations.

C-Trainswill be running every 15 minutes with the last trainleaving downtown at 3 a.m.

Several routes are also increasing service for the night andwill be running every 30-45 minutes, with the last busesleaving downtown at approximately 3 a.m.:

  • Route 10
  • Route17
  • Route 24
  • Route112
  • Route301

Calgary Transit spokesperson Doug Morgan said thisis a pilot project andfeedback will be gathered to see how service could be improved.

Our real concern is making sure its attractive to customers and we get ridership," he said. "Certainly its an investment that we have to do and we want to make sure that its usefuland meets their needs."

Unlike previous years where Calgary Transit offered free service, regularfares will apply. It is estimated the cost will be around $100,000.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving praised Calgary for adding service hours on New Year's Eve.

"This additional service is going to be a big breakthrough for people who are looking to plan ahead andknow that they have a safe ride home after the bars close," said MADD spokesperson Denise Dubyk.
