Calgary Zoo baby gorilla naming contest ends in landslide

The Calgary Zoo's baby gorilla is nameless no more after the public spoke loud and clear in the zoo's naming contest.

The Calgary Zoo'sbaby gorillais nameless no more after thepublic spoke loud and clear in the zoo's naming contest, which lasted 12 days.

Kimani took more than 82 per cent of the vote, with more than 47,000 weighingin.The zoo says it's African-inspired and means "beautiful and sweet."

The second and third runnersupwere Maisha and Tulia, respectively.

The poll opened on the zoo's website May 6.

"It is specially fitting that the name chosen by the public starts with 'K', like her parents Kioja and Kakinga," the zoo said in a blog post.
