The online reservation system for Alberta's provincial campgrounds logged more bookings than any previous year, the province says.

Reserve.AlbertaParks.caprocessed 164,101 regular campsite reservations, 3,251 for group sites and 3,638 for comfort camping over the past year.

The province says the 2018 total topped last year's online booking tally of 163,780.

The online system, which was introduced in 2009, has 600,000 account users.

It allows for online booking at 88 provincial campgrounds the rest are first-come, first-served plus 162 group campsites and 64 comfort camping units.

Sites can be booked for 2019 camping starting on these dates:

  • Feb. 4 group camping.
  • Feb. 11 comfort camping.
  • Feb. 19 regular camping.
  • Feb. 25 backcountry camping.

The online reservation system operates between February and November, but Albertans can still winter camp at several provincial parks, which can be found atAlbertaparks.ca.

The province says it is investing $38 million this year in Alberta's provincial park upgrades, expansions and modernizations throughout the system.
