Calgary woman accused of faking cancer receives death threats

The Calgary woman accused of faking cancer to collect donations is facing new charges and has received death threats. Jennifer Halford now faces a total of 11 charges of fraud under $5,000.

The Calgary woman accused of faking cancer to collect donations is facing new charges and has received death threats.

Jennifer Halford now faces a total of 11 fraud under $5,000 charges after four were added on Wednesday.

Her lawyersays Halford has received several threatening messages lately including a letter sent to her home that reads "Die b---h, die."

"She's been very scared," said MichelleParhar. "She has a family."

Halford has not reported the threats to police.

'She's asking for distance'

"It obviously disturbed her very much that not only do people know her address but also saw fit to threaten her life with this, so at this time she's asking for distance," said Parhar.

Police say they began investigating when Jennifer Halford claimed to be a Fort McMurray fire evacuee and had breast cancer.

Halford is accused of raising money for herself online. Some of her alleged victims gave food, clothing, gift cards and cash donations of up to $1,000.

One Facebook post from April asks members of a local church to make meals for Halford after she told them she was beginning cancertreatments.

"Jen has begun an intense round of 33 chemotherapy treatments after surgery was unsuccessful in getting rid of all of her cancer," reads the post."Please remember to pray for her and her family and offer your help through meals if you are able."

In 2011, Halford's five-year-old daughter died ofMitochondrialdisease

Halford is back in court on Oct. 27.
