Suspect arrested after Canmore break-in sparks school lockdown

Canmore RCMP have arrested a suspect after a residential break and enter prompted the lockdown of a middle school on Tuesday afternoon.

Canmore RCMParrested a suspect several hours after a residential break and enter promptedthe lockdown of a middle school.

Police were called on Tuesday at about 12:20 p.m. after a witness heard a "pop" from inside a home and reported seeingahole in one of the windows, police said.

At first, it was unclearwhether a suspect was still in the houseor had fled, they added.

As a result, RCMPcordoned off the area and alerted the nearby Lawrence Grassi Middle Schoolto keep students inside the building.

Police dogs and the RCMPEmergency Response Team cleared the house without finding the suspect, but officers located and arrested a person of interest in Canmore at about 8 p.m., RCMP said on Wednesday morning.
