Canmore school official accused of peeping into neighbour's bathroom at night

UPDATE added June 23, 2017: Charges against a Canmore man who was a former principal atthe Banff Elementary school have been withdrawn. Dean Irvine was charged with voyeurism and trespassing over allegationsof looking into a neighbour's bathroom at night and recording it.His lawyer said Irvine agreed to terms of a peace bond so the Crown withdrew the charges.

A senior official with the public school board in Canmore has been charged with voyeurism and trespassing.

Dean Irvine, director of learning servicesfor Canadian Rockies Public Schools, is accused of peeping into a neighbour's bathroom at night from their yard and recording it.

RCMP Sgt. Ryan Currie says evidence of the alleged late-night voyeurism was caught on tape by the complainant's backyard wildlife camera.

The complaint was made in September.

"Once we reviewed the footage, had recorded the suspect looking into, or looking towards the house," he said.

"And what we found was that, where the suspect was looking, would have been into a room ...a bathroom area, where they expected privacy."

Irvine is the former principal of the Banff Elementary School and a former director of learning services for the school district. He's now suspended with pay.

"We are monitoring the situation closely to see how due process turns out with the courts," said Christopher MacPhee, superintendent withCanadian Rockies Public Schools.

The school board isn't doing any investigation on its own. "The school division has done their due diligence and we have actively placed the employee on leave."

Currie says no youth were involved in the alleged incidents, which are believed to date back as far as March2015.

Irvine is set to make his next court appearance on Nov. 30.
