Crash throws 3 young men from vehicle on 16th Avenue N.E.

Three young men were thrown from a vehicle on 16th Avenue after it crossed the median and hit an oncoming vehicle, according to police.

Calgary Police say three young men in their late teens or early 20s were ejected from a vehicle during a head-on collision Thursday. (CBC)

Three young men were thrown from a vehicle on16th Avenue after it crossedthe median and hitan oncoming vehicle, according to police.

The crash happened near 19th Street N.E.at about 8:30 p.m. MT.

"A vehicle was travelling eastbound on 16th Avenueat a high rate of speed, it lost control, crossed the centre median and struck a vehicle travelling in the westbound lane," said Calgary Police acting Staff Sgt.TravisJuska.

Speed was likely a factor, he said. "A stark reminder that people need to slow down when they are driving."

The three young men who were ejected from the vehicle, all in their late teens or early 20s,face injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening. They were taken tothe Foothills Hospital.

A man and a woman in a second vehicle were also hurt andtaken to the Rockyview General Hospital.
