A stolen car chase in southern Alberta that saw three police cruisers struck and the HAWCS police helicopter called down from Calgary ended with the arrest of a man and a woman.

The incident began in Raymond on Wednesday, about 35 kilometres southeast of Lethbridge, when RCMP tried to stop a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

The vehicle fled, hitting two police vehicles in the process, RCMP said in a release.

Officers from neighbouring detachments of Taber and Foremost as well as Lethbridge police and the Calgary HAWCS helicopter were called in to help with the pursuit.

A third police vehicle was struck by the stolen car and an RCMP officer discharged a gun as the chase continued.

The officer involved in the first collision sustained minor injuries, was treated at hospital and released. No other officers or the suspects were injured.

The suspects were finally taken into custody near the town of Foremost, about 115 kilometres southeast of Lethbridge.

No one was injured. Charges are pending against the two suspects.
