Campgrounds improved at Alberta's Castle Wilderness parks

The province has announced the completion of some upgrades for Alberta's Castle Wilderness parks.

Improvements to the pair of newparks include more than 180 refurbished campsites and new picnic tables, an improved day-use area at Butcher's Lake and four newcomfort cabins at Beaver Mines Lake.

This is the first part of a four-year, $20-million planto improve recreation opportunities in Castle Provincial Park and CastleWildlandProvincial Park.

Other projects underway include new day-use sheltersand rustic camp sites that can hold RVs. Backcountrytrails for cross-country skiing, mountain biking, snowshoeing and horseback riding are also under review.

The protected area is 103,000 hectares in southwestern Alberta.
