CBC Calgary Food Bank Drive beats $1M goal on Blitz Day

Thank you, Calgary! With your help, this year's Blitz Day for the CBC Calgary Food Bank Drive helped push the total raised past the million-dollar goal, raising $1,031,125 and counting.

The goal was reached just before 4 p.m. Thursday

With your help, this year's CBC Calgary Food Bank Drive Blitz Day helped push the total raised past the million-dollar goal.

As of 4 p.m.,totals raised were$1,031,125 and counting.

Blitz Day ranuntil 6 p.m. at CBC Calgary's offices at 1000 Veteran's Place N.W.

We started early with a live broadcast of the Calgary Eyeopener from 6 to 8:37 a.m., with live performances throughout the show from musical guest Matt Masters.

One Gray Knight coffee sales kicked off at 6 a.m.

The live broadcast resumed at noon asAlberta@Noon took to the airfrom12 to 1 p.m. with country/roots band Ghostboy taking live music requests in the lobby.

The Homestretch was live from 3 to 6 p.m. with musical guest Steel & Timber.

Behind-the-scenes tours of the station

Free parking was available all dayin the surface lot that is west of the building.

Guests had lots of chances to check out the behind-the-scenes action with tours of CBC Calgary happening at various times throughout the day.

They could also stop by for a coffee in the morning or some freshly popped popcorn in the afternoon.

CBC Calgary's 2018 Food Bank drive has the ambitious goal of raising $1 million before Christmas Eve.

You can donate online anytime or in person at the following locations:

CBC Calgary: 1000 Veteran's Place N.W.:

  • Dec. 6-24, weekdays: 7a.m. to 6p.m.
  • Dec. 6-24, weekends: 10a.m. to 2p.m.

Bankers Hall: 315 - 8th Ave S.W.:

  • Nov. 25, 26 & Dec. 17: 8:30 a.m.3:30 p.m.

Fifth Avenue Place: 420 - 2nd Street S.W.

  • Dec. 12, 13, 16, 17 and 18: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Suncor Energy Centre: 150 - 6th Avenue S.W.

  • Dec. 2-6: 9a.m. to 3p.m.
  • Dec. 9 - 13: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

More than a million kilograms of food

Since its inception in 1985, the CBC Calgary campaign has raised more than $19 million to help feed hungry Calgarians.
