CBE byelection to replace Sheila Taylor expected next year

Calgary's public school board will hold a byelection for wards 11 and 13 after Sheila Taylor resigned as a trustee in October to run in a provincial byelection.

Wards 11 and 13 currently have no trustee

Sheila Taylor resigned her seat as a trustee for the Calgary Board of Education after the school board turned down her request to take an unpaid leave of absence while running for the Wildrose Party in Calgary-West. (CBC)

Calgary's public school board will hold a byelection for wards 11 and 13 afterSheila Taylor resigned as atrustee in October to run in a provincial byelection.

She was the candidatefor Alberta's Wildrose Party but lost the vote toCalgary police Sgt. Mike Ellis.

Taylor resigned her seat after the school board turned down her request to take an unpaid leave of absence.

The remaining trustees voted 5-1 on Tuesday to hold a byelection to replace her.

However, the process could take 12 to 14 weeksmeaning the vote might not be held until spring.

The board will hold an information session for candidates in the new year.
