Charge upgraded for teen accused in house party stabbing

A 17-year-old girl is now facing first-degree murder charges in the January stabbing death of a University of Calgary student.

A 17-year-old girl is now facing first-degree murder charges in the January stabbing death of a University of Calgary student.

Police say Brett Wiesewas at a house party Brentwood when a number of strangers arrived.

The party was advertised using social media and as many as 100 people showed up.

The 20-year-old business studentasked them to leave, butpolice saythe group came back with more people some equipped with knifes looking fora fight.

Weisswas fatally injuredwhile another person was seriously injured.

A 17-year-old girl was initially charged with second-degree murder, but it was upgraded to first-degree murder today.

Mitchell William Harkes, 19,was also charged with second-degree murder in the case.

His preliminary hearing is now underway.
