Charges laid in Canmore explosion that destroyed home, damaged others

Charges have been laid under Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act over an explosion in Canmore that blew up an empty homeand damaged several others.

A contractor excavating for footings and foundations at a constructionsite on 13thStreet struck a gas main on June 26, 2015.

The gas company had time to evacuate nearby homes and no one was hurt, although one worker was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

APM Construction Services now faces seven charges under the act, and Ground Zero Grading is charged with six counts.

The charges include failure to ensure the safety of a worker.

Two individuals are also facing the same charge:Jerry Arbeau andAndrew Pacaud.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
