Multiple charges laid in teen sex trafficking case, Calgary police say

Investigators said they discovered that the 15-year-old victim had beentrafficked by a woman to a man,andin exchange for drugs and money.

Multiple charges have been laidagainst a Calgaryman and woman suspected of traffickinga teenage girl earlier this year.

On March 25, police were called to do a welfare check on a 15-year-old girl at the Sandman Hotelat 888 Seventh Avenue S.W.

She was believed to have been sexually exploited and possibly in danger, the Calgary Police Servicesaid in a Thursday press release.

Investigators said they discovered that the victim had beentrafficked by a woman to a manin exchange for drugs and money.

The victim was also coerced into subsequent sexual acts with both the man and womanagainst her will, police said.

On Wednesday, police arrested Michael Todd Mazar, 48, andCheyenne Madison Savannah Lee Schmeikal,19.

Theyface multiple charges, police said.

For Mazar, who is toappear in court on Nov. 18, thecharges include:

  • Sexual assault.
  • Sexual interference.
  • Invitation to sexual touching.
  • Obtaining sexual services for consideration.

For Schmeikal, who is set to appear in court on Nov. 20, thecharges include:

  • Sexual assault.
  • Obtaining sexual services for consideration from a person who is under 18.
  • Trafficking a person who is under 18.
  • Obtaining material benefit from trafficking a person.
  • Possession of child pornography.
