Officials in Chestermereareasking residents to remove their vehicles from the streets so the sweepers can collect as much sediment left behind from flooding as possible.

Chestermere, a city east of Calgary, was flooded twice in three days because ofstorms that brought hail and rain.

"Street sweepers will be going out and cleaning areas that were hardest hit to avoid more debris clogging storm drains should the city receive more precipitation," city officials said in a statement on Wednesday. "We ask that residents do not park on roads with recent flooding so street sweepers can collect as much debris as possible."

Chestermerewas hit with a hail and rainstorm Tuesday forthe second time in three days.

At least 300 homes were affected by Sunday's flood. In Tuesday's flood, most people's sump pumps were able to keep up with the water seeping into basements, however, emergency workers had to help about 10 homeowners faced with a second round of flooding.

Mayor Patricia Matthews says the city is filling out the paperwork for disaster assistance for home owners who don't have insurance to cover all flood repairs.

"We'll certainly have to provide funding where the insurance coverage might not and in some cases where there wasn't insurance available at all. So the provincial government is empathetic obviously to the situation we're in and they are not unfamiliar with it. So they're doing everything they can to help and we're doing everything we can to make sure we connect people properly."
