Layoffs at Calgary-based Chevron Canada continue, company officials confirmed Thursday, but they won't provide any specifics, which is consistent with previous announcements.

The company announced in October it would shed between 6,000 and 7,000 jobs globally due to reduced upstream profitability.

The company said Thursday a continued implementation of those cutswas underway.

"In light of the current market environment, Chevron continues to take action by revising organizational structures, increasing efficiencies and reducing expenses," the statement said.

"As part of this, we have undertaken a previously announced workforce reduction across our Upstream group. We are sensitive to the concerns of impacted employees, we are providing them 60 days transition pay, severance and career transition services."

Last month, the Calgary-based subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, based in San Ramon, Calif., made a similar announcement without identifying the number of affected employees.
