A 23-year-old man with a history of sex offences against children has been released after serving a three-year sentence, Calgary police said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

Dustin Roy Williamson was convicted of sexual interference, possession of child pornography, failure to comply, theft and an indecent act.

He is described as five-feet-seven-inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.

Williamson will be monitored by the high risk offender program.

Police say the decision to release his information is not made lightly, but they believe it's in the public interest.

Police warn against "any form of vigilante action" by members of the public.
