Calgary police look for driver in Beddington Heights hit and run that injured 2 children

Calgary police are still looking forthe driver of a white pickup truck that a witnesssays "mowed over" two children at anorthwest Calgary intersection.

Police are searching for a Dodge Ram or similar vehicle, which they say struck the kids near the intersection of Berkley Drive and Bermondsey Way N.W. shortly after 7:30 a.m.

They believe the truckdrove through a stop sign and struck two childrena 11-year-old boy anda 9-year-old girl. The girl's brother was also with them,but avoided being hit.

The children told police they believe the vehicle drove over the girl.

According to EMS spokesman Stuart Brideaux, the children were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The boy suffered soft-tissue injuries such as bruising and the girl is being treated for a broken leg.

Brideaux said paramedics initially had"mixed reports" saying three kids had been hurt, but it turned out only two had been struck in the groupcrossing Bermondsey Way.

Witness shocked

Ivan Enns witnessedthe incident and said he couldn't believe the driver's behaviour.

"A white pickup truck came down, fully disregarded the stop sign, didn't even see the kids, mowed them over and kept on going," Enns said."It was unbelievable.I can't believe people do this. These are kids."

Calgary police are asking the driver to come forward. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppersat 1-800-222-8477.

A crowdfunding page has been set up for the family.

"Many of you have friends and family who have suffered through this kind of tragedy and are aware that there are always additional costs involved with dealing with such a horrendous event," stated the Go Fund Me page.
