Christian Ouellettes, father and son, face drug charges

A Calgary defence lawyer and his 19-year-old son, both named Christian Ouellette, are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

Father, suspended from practising law, also suing 2 local crown prosecutors

A Calgary defence lawyer and his 19-year-old son were charged Thursday morning with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

The father and son, both named Christian Ouellette, will be released for a combined cash sum of $6,500 on conditionsthat include they do not contact each other anddo not return home.

The son is also charged with firing a gun,two counts of possession of a weapon and benefiting from crime.

The father, 69, wassuspended frompractising law by the Law Society of Alberta in Januaryafter he allegedlythreatened someonewith criminal proceedingsand child welfare proceedingsin order to gaina benefit for hisclient.

He alsolaunched a lawsuit earlier this yearagainst two local Crown prosecutors after they applied to have himremoved from a case for incompetence and a mistrial was declaredin spring 2014.

Both Ouellettes will return to court on July 15.
