A dramatic house fire was captured by a neighbour at a Christie Park home late this afternoon before firefighters brought it under control.

Tyler Shandrotweeted shots from the scene, which he says started just before 5p.m. in an attachedgarage in the100block of Christie Knoll Heights S.W.

The Calgary Fire Department said the sole occupant of house was alerted by a neighbour and got out safely and there were no other injuries, although damage to the house and garage is 'significant'.

Witnesses say there was a possible explosion in the garage.

'It was really scary'

Another witness who lives nearby says there was confusion at first.

"It was really scary.Everyone initially thought that there was some kind of huge explosion because of what came out of the garage," said DurrandMulholland.

He said the flames reached out from the garage to about halfway down the driveway.

"I came outside, there were fire trucks and helicopters above. It was a pretty big fire," he said.

Firefighters were able to control the blaze, but the home suffered extensive damage. (Mike Symington/CBC)
