Emergency alert lifted after severe weather plows across southern Alberta

An Alberta Emergency Alert issued on Monday afternoon has been lifted after a storm bringingsevere weather madeits way across the southern parts of the province.

At 2:53 p.m., Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a thunderstorm that the agencyreported hadproduceda tornado, according to astatement on the Alberta government'swebsite.

That thunderstorm was said to belocated just south of Okotoks, moving to the east at about 30 kilometres per hour. Several social media posts showed hail and intense rain that appeared to be a result of the storm.

The warning was lifted around 3:40 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning issued for Calgary and the surrounding area, from as far south as High River, going northeast through Red Deer up to Ponoka has also been lifted.
