Climber dies on Mount Victoria after 150-metre fall

A 71-year-old man from Manitoba has died on Mount Victoria near Lake Louise in Banff National Park after falling roughly 150 metres.

A 71-year-old man from Manitoba has died on Mount Victoria near Lake Louise in Banff National Park after falling roughly 150 metres.

Parks Canada says the man was climbing the south summit of the mountain with a partner when heslipped and sustained fatal injuries.

The incident was reported to officials at 6:53 a.m. MT Wednesday.

The man's body wasrecovered with help from Alpine Helicopters and hisnext of kin have been notified.

"The thoughts of the rescue team and allParksCanadapersonnel are with the victims family and friends," said Parks Canada spokesperson Omar McDadi ina release."We extend our most sincere condolences."

RCMP and the medical examiner's office are still investigating, but foul play has been ruled out.
