The city-owned corporation responsible for the redevelopment of East Village is expanding into some new areas.

The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation will oversee the city's planned revitalization ofOlympic Plaza, the municipal plaza in front of City Hall and the Arts Commons block.

"We are being asked as part of a stakeholder or steering committee, if you will, to come up with a concept that will connect the park space better with the vision of Arts Commons," said SusanVeres, a spokesperson forCMLC.

That vision could include a new building on Olympic Plaza's northwest corner and potentially an undergroundparkade, things which would help generate revenue for the public space.

In addition to the area around City Hall, CMLChas also signed a deal with the Calgary Stampede, which means the corporation will likelycomplete the Stampede's master plan, including theredevelopment of land in Victoria Park.

The CMLC is hoping to finalize an agreement to oversee the expansion of the Stampede grounds into the old neighbourhood of Victoria Park, north of the grounds. (Google Maps)

"We might even act as their land agent if they needed to sell land and sell the land for them, come up with a creative design," said Veres.

The CMLC would like to "add horizontal infrastructure" to the districtnorth of the existing Stampede Park, said Veres, which"would allow the Stampede master plan vision to attract investors and business operators."

Veres saidthey hope to reach a final agreement with the Stampede later this year.
