Registered sex offender charged with sexual assault of teen in Coaldale

A 32-year-old man who is a registered sex offender has been charged with the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in a small community approximately 20 kilometres east of Lethbridge, Alta.

The incident occurredTuesday at a homeinCoaldale, police said.

The mannow faces six charges, which includeabductionand uttering threats.

Early Wednesday evening, Lethbridgepolice and ALERT Internet Child Exploitation searched a home in Coaldaleand arrested the man.

He has been remanded into custody and will make his next appearance in Lethbridge Provincial Court onJan. 25 at 9:30 a.m.

In November 2013, Lethbridge Police issuedapublic warning when the same man was released from St. Albert Penitentiary after serving a 44-month sentence for two counts of sexual assault against two 13-year-old girls.

Police said at the time he was at high risk to re-offend against girls under 16 and that he posed a significant risk of harm to the community.
