Police seize cocaine, crystal meth worth $10M

Cocaine and crystal methamphetamine worth almost $10 million on the street was seized from a vehicle near Drumheller late last week, police say.

The investigation began in November 2019 when the Calgary Police Service received information from another police force that a local man was involved in transporting drugs across Canada, police said in a release Tuesday.

The CPS gang enforcement team then used "a number of covert resources" to gather evidence to support arresting the suspect, the release said.

On Jan. 30, the suspect was taken into custody with help from Drumheller RCMP officers as he stopped his vehicle near the hamlet of Dorothy, about 150 kilometres northeast of Calgary.

A search of the vehicle turned up 46.9 kg of cocaine in uncut bricks with a street-level value of about $4.7 million, and 47.5 kg of crystal methamphetamine worth an estimated $4.75 million, police said.

Jacob Cody Neumann, 33, of Calgaryis charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He is set to appear in court on Feb. 7.

"Drug traffickers be warned: police agencies from across this country are working together to identify, locate and arrest those who traffic in illicit substances causing significant harm to our communities," said Staff Sgt. Kyle Grant of the Calgary Police Service.

"Drugs fuel violent crime, and investigations such as this address both the drugs and the associated violence."

CPS thanked the Winnipeg Police Service and the Edmonton Police Service for their help with the investigation, and the Drumheller RCMP for their assistance with the arrest.
