Collision in northeast Calgary leaves toddler in potential life-threatening condition

Calgary police responded Wednesday to a collision involving a bus and a vehicle thatsaw two pedestrians taken to hospital, including a toddler who is in potentially life-threatening condition.

In a statement to CBCNews, a police spokesperson said officerswere called to the area of 36th Street and Whitehorn Drive N.E. at around 1:25 p.m. to reports of a collision.

Police believe a bus and a vehicle collided, before the vehicle struck one child and an adult.

Stuart Brideaux with EMS said paramedics assessed the injuries of the two pedestrians at the scene.

The toddler was takento the Alberta Children's Hospital in serious and potentially life-threatening condition, said Brideaux. The adult was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in otherwise stable and non-life-threatening condition.

While Brideaux could not elaborate on the toddler's injuries, he said there was concern regarding the"vehicle versus the physical size andage of the toddler involved."

EMS assessed two other adults at the scene, who were the occupants of the vehicle, but they declined further care, according toBrideaux.

As police continue their investigation, northbound 36th Street N.E., between 32nd Avenue N.E. and Whitehorn Drive N.E., will be closed.
