Conservative Party candidate Michelle Rempel has her own campaign app

There's an app for everything. Now, a Calgary candidate for next month's federal election has an app that puts her campaign information right on your smartphone.

Conservative Party candidate, Michelle Rempel says her campaign will communicate with voters using as many methods as possible.

While she says it will never replace the personal touch of door knocking, Rempel says she does see the value in putting information about her campaign through people's phones.

"How we consume information has changed. We knew that we needed to have a portal that reflected how people are trying to access and touch into my organization," says the M.P. for Calgary Nose Hill.

The app, which is called Michelle Rempel, includes information about her, videos of her thoughts on specific issues, as well astakes donations and requests for lawn signs.

Rempel says that since launching the app, there have already been thousands of downloads and notes that it isno longer enough to just have a website.

"If you want aggregate content or ways to get involvedit has to be in one place," Rempel said. "That's why we wanted to do this."

Political scientist Duane Bratt says he's not sure many undecided voters are interested in putting such an app on their phones, and that it's actually for Rempel's Conservative base.

"This isn't about providing a service for an individual looking for information about a candidate," Bratt said. "This is about the candidate acquiring information about the supporter and so a database is being created."

Bratt says that database could be used in some future campaign to help Rempel identify potential supporters, both near and far.
