Some of the contractors who helped remediate the Talisman Centre after last year's flood have filed a $1.4-million lawsuit, claiming they still haven't been paid for the work.

The basement of the sports complex at 2225 Macleod Trail filled with water, leading to months of remediation work.

At least one of the litigants involved in the suit says the experience will have some businesses second-guessing whether to accept similar work in the future.

"Everyone is hoping there is no flood this year, next year, the year after, but are you going to think twice about going to help if you have issues like this?" said Rob Stevens of SmartSite, one of the firms suing the City of Calgary and Rocky Cross Construction (South) Ltd. the firm that hired the subcontractors.

"Most of my invoices represented labour," Stevens said. "So labour comes round every two weeks, whether you like it or not. It's all been paid out. It causes serious cash flow and jeopardizes my business, my livelihood."

The firmdid not respond to requests for an interview. The city's legal departmentsaid it is working to try and reach a settlement withinthe next few weeks.
