Mental health concerns for man accused of attacking woman in front of daughter

With his wife in the courtroom, the man accused of stabbing a woman in front of her 10-year-old child was ordered to see a doctor to assess his mental health.

Nurdin Dossa, 68, faces a charge of aggravated assault after allegedly attacking Anila Malak, the wife of a former business partner in her home in Coral Springs on Thursday.

The daughter was credited by police with saving her mother's life after sheran outside and alerted nearby workers who called 9-1-1.

When officers arrived at the home, Malak was still being attacked.

Police said Dossa and Malak's husband were business associates years ago.

Malak, 41, suffered severe injuries to her face and neck in the attack.

Dossa's wife and several other family members were in the courtroom on Monday and met with duty counsel lawyer Mark Cluett ahead of his CCTV appearance.

Cluett told Provincial Court Judge Maureen Graham that Dossa was concerned about prescriptionsand dosages he was receiving in the Calgary Remand Centre.

Police have said the investigation is ongoing and the charge could be upgraded to attemptedmurder.

Dossa will be back in court on Wednesday to see a forensic psychiatrist.
