Deerfoot drivers warned of major delays due to Ivor Strong bridge work

Motorists who use DeerfootTrail in the city's southeast can expect major delays for the next couple of monthsduring repairs to a bridge over the Bow River.

The city says repairs to the Ivor Strong bridge will take more than sevenweeks and during that time traffic will be restricted to two lanes in either direction.

The speed limit in the construction zone is 50 km/h and the lane width will be reduced as well in the construction zone.

The bridge repairs will begin at 9 p.m. on May 13 and are slated to be completed by July 4. The city says crews will be working around the clock during that time.

While there are no weight restrictions for vehicles during the repair period, there will be restricted access for large, commercial trucks to some of theon ramps to Deerfoot Trailfrom Anderson Road, Bow Bottom Trail, Southland Drive, Douglasdale Blvd. and 24th Street S.E.

The city alsoreminds motorists that fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones.
