Disabled mom's explosion death called homicide

RCMP say an autopsy on a young mother who died in Innisfail last Friday shows that she was a victim of homicide.

Vicky Shachtay, 23,died after a packagethat had been delivered to her apartment exploded.

Shachtay, a quadriplegic who used a wheelchair following a car accident several years ago, leaves behind a six-year-old daughter.

RCMP major crimes investigators are treating her death as a targeted homicide.

But noother details are being released.

There are no suspects and no arrests have been made, police said.

Police are warning all residents to be careful if they receive any suspicious, unexpected packages.

"But this is not to indicate that anyone else is at danger," RCMP said in a written release.

Innisfail, a town of about 8,000 people, is 110 kilometres north of Calgary.
