Wildlife officers say they have captured ablack bear and her two cubs that have been seen roaming around the Calgary community of Discovery Ridge since early October.

Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services say they've been receiving near daily calls about the animals for weeks initially only sightings but later about bears getting into "unnatural" food sources like garbage.

The bears' activity spurred wildlife officers to close some areas to the public and set two traps in Griffith Woods Park, specifically reports of thebears getting into unsecured garbage and compost bins in the community.

"Further decisions about the bears will be carefully made based on the Government of Alberta's Black Bear Response Guide and taking into account both the bears and public safety," said a spokesperson with the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services.

The ministry said people can help keep both bears and people safe by following bear smart strategies, including storinggarbage in bear-resistant and odour-proof containers or buildings.
