A 35-year-old man is facing multiple chargesincluding impaired driving causing deathin connectionto a fatal crash in southern Alberta in July.

Okotoks RCMP say a 1995 Mustang was travelling down Cimarron Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it lost control and hit two trees and a light standard.

The driver allegedly tried to flee the scene, but was caught by RCMP a short distance away.

A female passenger was thrown from the vehicle and died later at hospital.

Another male passenger was seriously injured.

Sgt. Ian Shardlow said while the man drivingwas arrested the day of the crash he was released from custody and admitted to hospital with injuries.

Heremained there for an extended period of time, but Shardlow couldn't say exactly whenhe was released from hospital.

The driverwas re-arrested Oct. 16 after the investigation wrapped up and released on $10,000 cash bail with numerous conditions attached.

Shardlow said the investigation was complicated because alcohol and high speed were suspected and the forensic examination of a scene can take a while.
