Multiple collisions reported as dust storm blows across southern Alberta

Alberta RCMP say they are responding to multiple collisions west of Taber, as high winds have created a dust storm that is reducing visibility.

Alberta RCMP say they are responding to multiple collisions west of Taberas high windscreated a dust storm that is reducing visibility.

Coaldale RCMP say they responded to numerous collisions on Highway 3 east of Coaldale and west of Taber.

In an alert that has now ended, Alberta Emergency Alert said Highway 3 wasclosed between Range Road 185 to 190.

Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for several parts of Alberta, warning of strong winds with gusts of up to110 km/h throughout Monday afternoon.

"Near zero visibility in blowing dust has been observed and is creating hazardous travel conditions. The blowing dust is expected to continue while winds remain strong," the weather agency said.

Environment Canada wind warnings are in effect for:

  • Brooks - Strathmore - Vulcan.
  • Cypress Hills Provincial Park - Foremost.
  • Drumheller - Three Hills.
  • Grande Prairie - Beaverlodge - Valleyview.
  • Hinton - Grande Cache.
  • Lethbridge - Taber - Milk River.
  • Medicine Hat - Bow Island - Suffield.
  • Peace River - Fairview - High Prairie - Manning.
  • Slave Lake.

Environment Canada says winds will begin to ease tonight.
