Eight years recommended for man who killed friend

The mother of a slain 22-year-old says an eight-year prison sentence for her son's killer is not enough.

Dean Commandafatally stabbed his close friend Chad Largyduring a fight in Commanda'ssouthwest Calgary condo on Jan. 19,2006,thencut up Largy's bodyand hid the remains, said a statement of facts agreed on by the Crown and defence lawyers.

Largy's severed arm was found in a dumpster in southwest Calgary the next day, sparking a police investigation.

On Wednesday, the Crown and defence lawyers agreed Commanda should serveten years in prison, minus two years served,for manslaughter and interfering with a body. The judge saidhe agreed with the sentence, but won't issue his judgment until next month.

Largy'smother said outside court Wednesday that the wholeordeal has takena toll on her and her family.

"I think all of this could have been done a year ago and saved a lot of the anxiety that my family has had to sustain, the sleepless nights and everything that goes with it.And it obviously won't ever bring back my son," Lorraine Harris said outside court.

Largy's sister Mirandasaid thesentence doesn't fit the crime. Shesaid she misses her brother every day.
