Elbow Park portables can't be used, say officials

The Elbow Park School parents' council says they have been told some empty portables they located to house their children can't be used for classes.

The Elbow Park School parents' council says they have been told some empty portables they located to house their children can't be used for classes.

Elbow Park was badly damaged by the June flood and students were to move into portables at another school next week. However, thoseportables are not ready for use and students are going to be bused to another neighbourhood.

Parents had hoped the discovery of 80 portables online near Crossfields could be a solution to the students being bused into another neighbourhood but the government says they can't be used.

The decision comes after Alberta Education inspected the portables and found they don't connect together properly.

Elbow Park students will start school on Tuesday and will be bused to Eugene Coste School in the southwest community of Haysboro.

The province expects portables at a nearby school will be ready for use later this year.
