Enbridge ordered to expand cleanup on Kalamazoo River

More work is needed in Michigan's Kalamazoo River to clean up oil from an Enbridge pipeline spill in July 2010, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

More work is needed in Michigan's Kalamazoo River to clean up oil froman Enbridgepipeline spill in July 2010,according tothe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

It wasestimated at the time thatthree million litres of oil spilled into a creek that flows into the Kalamazoo River after a 30-inch pipeline ruptured near Marshall, Mich.

Heavy rains caused the river to overtop existing dams and carried oilroughly50 kilometresdownstream polluting the waters and coating various fish and wildlifebefore the spill was contained.

The EPA saysmore cleanup is neededin three locations: upstream of Ceresco Dam, upstream of the Battle Creek Dam in the Mill Ponds area, and in the delta upstream of Morrow Lake.

Prior orders from the EPAdirecting Enbridge to complete other cleanup and restoration work in the Kalamazoo River system are still ineffect.
