Albertans soon to get instant rebates on energy efficient products

An in-store rebate program, covering products such as LED light bulbs, low flow faucets, programmable thermostats and smart power bars, will run from April 28 to June 11 at nearly 600 home improvement stores across Alberta.

Instant rebates on energy-efficient productswill soon help Albertanssave money and power.

The rebate programis the latest announcement through Energy Efficiency Alberta's Residential Retail Products Program.

The rebates apply to products such asLED light bulbs, low flow faucets, programmable thermostats and smart power bars.

Albertans will save between $2 and $30 depending on the product, with a limit of 25 of any one product per transaction.

Environment Minister Shannon Phillips says the program will help save250,000 gigajoules of energy.

"[It's] enough to meet the net energy of approximately 1,600 homes for one year, and it will save 307,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent," she said.

"It's roughly equivalent to taking 41,000 personal vehicles off the road for one year."

The six-week instant rebate program runs from April 28 to June 11 at nearly 600 home improvement stores across the province. The province is planning a second six-week run in the fall.

The instant rebate program is expected to cost about $8.5 million.
